Food Sorting Volunteer
Help prepare rescued food for community markets. Volunteers on this shift sort donated food from retail partners to ensure quality and freshness before distribution.
Responsibilities:
- Check food for quality and freshness; remove any damaged or spoiled items
- Separate food into appropriate crates, coolers, or categories
- Assist with organizing items for delivery boxes and add-ons
- Handle pallets and containers safely, working with other volunteers as needed
- Help keep the sorting area clean and organized throughout the shift
Skills / Preferences:
- Detail-oriented and able to assess food quality
- Comfortable working in a team environment
- Able to follow instructions and stay organized in a fast-paced setting
Physical Requirements:
- Standing and moving throughout the shift
- Lifting and moving containers (approximately 20–40 lbs)
- Repetitive sorting and handling of items
Requirements / Notes:
- Age: 18+
- Dress: Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes; gloves required (provided)
- Environment: Indoor, high-energy environment; may be loud due to music and acoustics. Volunteers sensitive to sound may wish to bring earplugs or earbuds
- Teamwork: Be flexible; roles and tasks may shift based on need
