Benevolent Box Packing Volunteer

Help prepare grocery bags of fresh produce for the Home Delivery Program. Volunteers work behind the scenes to assemble bags that go directly to neighbors’ homes, ensuring each delivery is complete, organized, and ready to go.

Responsibilities:

  • Open pre-staged grocery bags organized by delivery route
  • Pack fruits and vegetables into each bag according to the provided packing list
  • Work along a packing line to ensure each bag receives the correct items
  • Help keep the packing area clean and organized during the shift
  • Work collaboratively with other volunteers to keep the process smooth and efficient
  • Ensure completed bags are staged and ready for delivery drivers
  • Assist with clean-up duties, including wiping down surfaces, sweeping, taking out trash, and storing compost bins

Skills / Preferences:

  • Detail-oriented and able to follow instructions
  • Comfortable working in a team environment
  • Enjoys hands-on, behind-the-scenes work

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing for extended periods
  • Repetitive packing and movement throughout the shift
  • Lifting and moving items up to 20–50 lbs

Requirements / Notes:

  • Age: 18+
  • Dress: Comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes; gloves required (provided)
  • Environment: Indoor, may be loud due to music and acoustics. Volunteers sensitive to sound may wish to bring earplugs or earbuds
  • Teamwork: Be flexible; roles and tasks may shift based on need
